While LonelyHotel works well as a dating site, it's much more than that. Social connections of all types are supported, including finding sports partners, local guides, alternative accommodations, etc.
No, LonelyHotel uses latitude and longitude for geographic reference, so the entire planet is accessible. *note: at the moment LonelyHotel is available in English only.
The search filters results in two ways, distance and interest matching. First off, search results are narrowed to people within 25 miles of your location. Those results are then further narrowed down based on interest groups matching. You will only see other users who match your interests AND you match their interests. For example, if you are a man aged 28 looking for a long-term relationship with a woman age 20-25, you will only see women who are looking for a long-term relationship with a man your age. A mismatch in one interest group does not exclude someone from being a match automatically, as you may match on another interest group. The users that show up in grey in your searches do not have any interest groups selected, so a match could not be determined.
The "My Interests" tab lets you configure your areas on interest. Use the "Add/Remove Interests" button to select your interests from the available categories (this list will expand with time). Each of your interests will appear on the menu on the left, select the menu item to configure that interest (important, an interest category is not active until you have configured it). For each interest category you can enter a brief description about yourself, configure your personal critera (where applicable) and select your search criteria. Search criteria selection lists allow multiple selections, be sure to select ALL items that fall into your search critera. Once compete press the "Save" button. You also have the option of uploading images for that category, please remember that nudity/obscenity is strictly forbidden and will be removed.
In order to find matches you must have configured your interests("My Interests" tab) as well as your location (on "My Matches" tab). Your matches are found on the "My Matches" tab under the map. If no matches are found there may be no users in your area at this time, as the site grows you will find more matches.
You can add travel information to your schedule on the "My Matches" tab. By default a home location is created, you can add as many time periods/locations as you would like by pressing the "Add Item" button on this screen.
The map control will show you your current location as well as other users that match your search. You can use the "Find Location" control to change your location (address, city, zip code, etc.), just type in the location and press the button. If the location is successfully found your marker will automatically be moved to it. Internet Explorer users can also click on the map then use to "Move To" button to change their location (coming soon for firefox/opera users). In the event that you have a lattitude/longitude pair you can also enter those in the given boxes and press the "Move To" button.
Yes, your personal imforation is hidden from other users and will not be shared or sold. Communication with others on the system does not require disclosing your e-mail address.
